It's amazing where my students pop up! Stephen Hindmarsh did a flash solo at Amsterdam's Schipol Airport and took passengers by surprise when he descended on the airport's grand piano with The Girl from Ipanema, James Taylor's Fire and Rain and You Never Give Me Your Money from Abbey Road.
And word has it he's been playing the grand piano at his Amsterdam Hotel, where he and wife Pam are on holiday.
Stephen, a retired solicitor from Urmston, began studying with MPT 18 months ago, after a long learning gap since he passed Grade 2, aged 12. He had played the piano and organ in church for some years but needed some direction.
He has advanced a long way since he started lessons here and is now a competent pianist, tackling jazz and classical music with confidence. He has also become an enthusiastic member of Manchester's Alberti Pianists, an adult group whose members perform in the city every fortnight. And he's returned to his piano exams, passing Grades 3 and 4 with distinctions.
Three magic words that my successful students adhere to: 1) practise; 2) practise; 3) practise!
