I'm Diane Paul, owner of Manchester Piano Tutor Online and Write Words Editorial.

Although face-to-face piano lessons in my Didsbury studio have been suspended until the Coronavirus outbreak has ended, all is not lost as I have been teaching people online successfuly for the last two years. And more students are learning online now from other parts of the country.

If you would like to book internet piano lessons, fill in the form giving me your name and contact details and I will send you details.

Online adult student, Rosalind Prior gives her views on learning by Skype since she transferred from studio lessons two years ago. While learning online, Rosalind has passed Grades 1, 2 and 3 with High Merits. Earlier in 2021 she moved to Cornwall and is still learning with me and will soon be taking Grade 4.

'I am definitely pleased I have been able to continue with my lessons. I feel I have made improvements in this time and it has also motivated me to keep practising outside of my lessons. The online aspect is not so much of an issue (and it saves you the travel!) and it is a great temporary alternative to continue learning during the current situation. I would recommend!' Ros Prior

I teach new, experienced and rusty pianists from age 7 upwards. If you have always wanted to learn or re-learn the piano or improve your existing skills but have never had the time to  balance this hobby with your careers, education or private lives, sign up for an online lesson in the comfort of your home - no stressful driving to get here and you can learn on your own instrument, wherever you live.

learning online

Learning how to play piano online isn't as daunting as you might think, so don't be afraid to give it a go. If it really isn't for you, you don't need to continue but so far most of my students have taken to it right away and now aren't so keen on going back to the old ways where they had to travel here in rush hour traffic in all weather and sometimes at inconvenient times. The hours are flexible, there is no travel hassle involved, attendance has been great and more students including adults, want to take exams, as a learning incentive. Students play on their own instruments, on which they feel comfy and play more accurately and they can Skype in at any time convenient to them. Even newbies can learn online and I send basic theory and other instructions by email beforehand. I also sometimes email new pieces, free of charge, if they are out of copyright.  I'm waiting to hear from you and my register is filling up!

Mark's a Winner!

Adult student, Mark is a Distinction student at MPT. He gained Distinctions for all the exams he's taken while learning online: Grades 1, 2 and 3. For Grade 3 he veered off the printed pieces and chose Moon River for his C section. He's hiding behind the video but we can see his hands and hear his delightful performance

of the piece here.

You can learn how he feels about studying online on the Reviews page.

DP portrait 2018.jpg

Nine-year-old Woody is a budding jazz pianist. Here he was two years ago, aged 7, playing Joplin. Woody plays The Entertainer, which he learned during his earlier online lessons. He passed his Grades 2 and 3 exams with a Distinction and High Merit recently, after being taught online. He is now studying for Grade 4.

Woody's father, Tony said: 'We were determined to continue with piano lessons from Diane with our son, as he has improved immensely under her tuition. The move from face-to-face to online piano lessons was seamless and the technology works very well making for a great learning environment. Having classes at home helps to maintain a routine and enable teaching continuity and I would recommend any student to engage with the opportunity.' The family are moving to London shortly and Woody is continuing with his training online.

Here's Woody again, aged 9, playing Valse Miniature by Karganov, Op 25 No 3. See how he's improved.

Ryan Sun is 9 years old. He's been learning at Manchester Piano Tutor before and throughout the pandemic and has taken to online learning like a fish to water. Ryan passed his Grade 2 exam with a Distinction and Grade 3 with a Merit. He is now studying online for his Grade 4 exam. Here, he is playing Theme by Thomas Attwood two years ago. Ryan starred as the heroine's son, Tam in the 2018 production of Miss Saigon at Manchester's Palace Theatre.

13-year-old Lijiahao is from Beijing. She learnt piano for two years in China and has been working online with Manchester Piano Tutor since the first pandemic lockdown when we all came online. Here, she's playing Happy Day by Ian King, which she learnt here long ago. Lijiahao's mother, Yuru comments on our online teaching on the attendance page. Lijiahao took her Grade 2 and 3 exams learning online and scored a Distinction and a Merit. She is now working towards Grade 4.
