COVID UPDATE: ONLINE OR IN-PERSON STUDIO LESSONS
Piano lessons in my Didsbury studio are available in person, as well as online via Skype. If you prefer to learn online or live too far away to come to the studio you can still learn online -- I teach students as far away as Cornwall and London; if you come to the studio and have odd times when you're unable to travel here, you can mix the two, whenever you need to. All the current Covid 19 safeguarding precautions are being followed in the studio.
If you would like to book Skype or studio piano lessons now, fill in the form and I will send you details. And more good news: your first lesson will be FREE of charge. If you decide to continue, lessons will be from £20 for 30 minutes. Look on the Fees page for full information.
PIANO ROOM HIRE
Later in the year, I am opening a new studio downstairs in the building, which will make access easier. And I will be launching a studio/piano hire service so that new students and other musicians who have no piano can hire the studio, when not in use, at an hourly rate. New students may not wish to buy an instrument if they're not sure they are going to continue, so the next best thing would be to hire our practise room until they decide to commit to ongoing lessons.
During the pandemic, we switched to teaching and learning online. Those students who prefer that system are continuing; others are learning in my studio and some are mixing the two.
Online adult student, Rosalind Prior gives her views on learning by Skype since she transferred from studio lessons two and a half years ago. Rosalind now lives in Cornwall and still learns online. She has passed all her exams with High Merits and has been learning technique and building repertoire online before embarking on her Grade 4 exam later this year. Ros enjoys learning more contemporary composers like Ludovico Einaudi and Yiruma.
'I am definitely pleased I have been able to continue with my lessons. I feel I have made improvements in this time and it has also motivated me to keep practising outside of my lessons. The online aspect is not so much of an issue (and it saves you the travel!) and it is a great temporary alternative to continue learning during the current situation. I would recommend!' Ros Prior
KEYWORD EDITORIAL SERVICES
My editorial service has been incorporated into MPT and has its own page and contact form for anyone looking for freelance writers and editorial input. This includes features, ghosting, books, copy-editing, tutorials and MSS appraisals.
The feature writing zoom workshop held in June was a huge success, so much so that I will be offering another one for The Writer's Bureau in October.
More details will be posted nearer the time. See the Keyword Editorial page on this site for some of the reviews we received.

Mark's a Winner!
Adult student, Mark is a Distinction student at MPT. He gained Distinctions for all the exams he's taken while learning online: Grades 1, 2 and 3. For Grade 3 he veered off the printed pieces and chose Moon River for his C section. He's hiding behind the video but we can see his hands and hear his delightful performance of the piece here (including the warbling of his budgies!). You can learn how he feels about studying online and offline on the Reviews page.

Nine-year-old Woody is a budding jazz pianist. Here he was two years ago, aged 7, playing Joplin. Woody plays The Entertainer, which he learned during his earlier online lessons. He passed his Grades 2 and 3 exams with a Distinction and High Merit recently, after being taught online. He is now studying for Grade 4.
Woody's father, Tony said: 'We were determined to continue with piano lessons from Diane with our son, as he has improved immensely under her tuition. The move from face-to-face to online piano lessons was seamless and the technology works very well making for a great learning environment. Having classes at home helps to maintain a routine and enable teaching continuity and I would recommend any student to engage with the opportunity.' The family recently moved down south and Woody is continuing with his training online.
Here's Woody again, aged 9, playing Valse Miniature by Karganov, Op 25 No 3. See how he's improved.
Ryan Sun is 9 years old. He's been learning at Manchester Piano Tutor before and throughout the pandemic and has taken to online learning like a fish to water. Ryan passed his Grade 2 exam with a Distinction and Grade 3 with a Merit. He is now studying in person in the Didsbury studio for his Grade 4 exam. Here, he is playing Theme by Thomas Attwood two years ago. Ryan starred as the heroine's son, Tam in the 2018 production of Miss Saigon at Manchester's Palace Theatre.
13-year-old Lijiahao is from Beijing. She learnt piano for two years in China and has been working online with Manchester Piano Tutor since the first pandemic lockdown when we all came online. Here, she's playing Happy Day by Ian King, which she learnt here long ago. Lijiahao's mother, Yuru comments on our online teaching on the attendance page. Lijiahao took her Grade 2 and 3 exams learning online and scored a Distinction and a Merit. She is now working towards Grade 4.
