COVID UPDATE: ONLINE OR IN-PERSON STUDIO LESSONS

Piano lessons in my Didsbury studio are available in person, as well as online via Skype. If you prefer to learn online or live too far away to come to the studio you can still learn online -- I teach students as far away as Cornwall and London; if you come to the studio and have odd times when you're unable to travel here, you can mix the two, whenever you need to. All the current Covid 19 safeguarding precautions are being followed in the studio.

LESSONS

If you would like to book Skype or studio piano lessons now, fill in the form and I will send you details. 30-minute lessons cost £22. Look on the Fees page for full information.

SUMMER EXAM RESULTS

We entered three students for the summer exams, including one adult, Brandon who was awarded a Distinction for his first exam. Congratulations Brandon and well done and to the other two Grade 5 entrants: Lijia who also gained a Distinction and Ryan, with a Merit.

STUDENT NEWS

Welcome back to adult student Ros Prior who has been studying yoga teaching in Nepal. Before leaving, Ros passed all her exams with High Merits learning online mainly during Covid.  Ros enjoys learning more contemporary composers like Ludovico Einaudi and Yiruma and she's joined us in-studio.

Numbers are down for the summer, although we don't work in tandem with school holidays as we have many adult students too and they come throughout the year. Mostly Chinese students have gone back to China for their holidays and will be back in September.

Mark's a Winner!

Adult student, Mark is a Distinction student at MPT. He gained Distinctions for all the exams he's taken while learning online: Grades 1, 2 and 3. For Grade 3 he veered off the printed pieces and chose Moon River for his C section. He's hiding behind the video but we can see his hands and hear his delightful performance of the piece here (including the warbling of his budgies!). You can learn how he feels about studying online and offline on the Reviews page.

Ten-year-old Woody is a budding jazz pianist. Here he was three years ago, aged 7, playing Joplin. Woody plays The Entertainer, which he learned during his earlier online lessons. He passed his Grades 2, 3 and 4 exams with a Distinction and two Merits after being taught online. He is now building his repertoire.

Woody's father, Tony said: 'We were determined to continue with piano lessons from Diane with our son, as he has improved immensely under her tuition. The move from face-to-face to online piano lessons was seamless and the technology works very well making for a great learning environment. Having classes at home helps to maintain a routine and enable teaching continuity and I would recommend any student to engage with the opportunity.' The family recently moved to London and Woody is continuing with his training online.

Here's Woody again, aged 9, playing Valse Miniature by Karganov, Op 25 No 3. See how he's improved. Woody is working on getting his levels up to Grade 5 before taking next year's exam.

Ryan Sun is 10 years old. He's been learning at Manchester Piano Tutor before and throughout the pandemic and has taken to online learning like a fish to water. Ryan passed his Grade 2 and 4 exams with Distinctions and Grades 3 and 5 with Merits. He is now studying online and in studio to build his repertoire and technique. Here, he is playing Theme by Thomas Attwood two years ago. Ryan starred as the heroine's son, Tam in the 2018 production of Miss Saigon at Manchester's Palace Theatre.
