"After playing Chopin, I feel as if I had been weeping over sins that I had never committed, and mourning over tragedies that were not my own." Oscar Wilde (1854-1900)

There's more to learning an instrument than just playing it. Listening is a key part of your musical education. It's a good idea to listen to music as much as you can and to build up your knowledge of composers, their music and performers. For any of you who may take exams in the future, this is essential because the aural section of the exam will include questions on music styles and composers.

Here are some venues in the Manchester area where you can hear wonderful music played by professionals and gifted music students. Please contact me if you know of others that I have omitted.

Don't forget to tune in to Radio 3 and Classic FM too.
